PGC250 is a grassroots civic initiative created to respond to the timely opportunity for Marylanders to explore authentic American history during the U.S. Semiquincentennial (2026).
Anacostia Trails Heritage Area (ATHA), a nonprofit cultural tourism organization, began convening professionals and volunteers working in history, education, parks, and placemaking to plan the regional commemoration of the 250th in 2024, and serves as fiscal sponsor.
Together, the group has chosen “We The People” as the lens of our approach with a focus on the contributions of Prince Georgians, past and present, to the ongoing American Experiment.
PGC250 has planned historic and recreational events across the county in 2026 including genealogical workshops, historical research, historical interpretation training, educational bike rides and boat rides, and a large-scale public cultural event.
Individuals and businesses are encouraged to support PGC250 through the Community Investment Tax Credit program.
As allowed by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, donors who contribute $500 or more to ATHA will receive Maryland State Tax Credits of $.50 for every dollar donated. For example, a $1,000 gift would earn $500 in tax credits, and donations may also qualify for federal and state charitable deductions as well.
Credits are first-come, first-served until all are allocated. ATHA has $12,500 in tax credits to support $25,000 in programs and projects related to Prince George's 250 commemoration.
Note: Contributions to ATHA through this program are preferred to be received by check and need to be paired with a state-required Donor Waiver Form.
